The first international electric car rally in Croatia, the Nikola Tesla EV Rally Croatia 2014,
will kick off on May 27th 2014. The rally will encompass 530 miles
across some of Croatia’s tourism hotspots and attractions introducing a
new project “The Green Tourism Highway”, which will promote not just use
of electric cars, but Croatian tourism, ecological sustainability and
innovation. The five day rally will be divided into five separate legs,
each about 100 miles long. The starting point on May 27th is Pula,
continuing to Poreč, Rovinj, Icici, Opatija, National Park Paklenica,
Zadar, National Park Krka, National Park Plitvice Lakes, Nikola Tesla’s
birth place, the village of Smiljani, before ending in Croatia’s capital
city, Zagreb.
Specially
modified electric cars charge stations will also be unveiled for the
Nikola Tesla Rally. One station is already set to open in front of the
first Croatian design hotel Lone in Rovinj, which is the first hotel
that joined the program. These will be the “fast charging” stations
which can charge a car within 1.5 hours, while they will also double as
interactive information panels. The stations will be set along the rally
route, about 40 miles apart, on locations near tourism attractions,
national parks, city centers, etc.
