The island of Hvar and Zagreb`s hotel Esplanade fall into the category of what is best in world tourism coming from European soil. Conde Nast Traveler, one of the most influential travel magazines, has awarded them this recognition based on the grand annual survey Readers' Choice Awards
Eight million votes were counted in total. There were 1285 candidates competing for the awards in the categories of towns (55), islands (55), hotels (665), resorts (445), air carriers (30) and cruise companies (25).
By the number of votes Hvar came in among the top ten islands in Europe and is in eight place with 74.8 points, while the Turkish island of Bozcaada came in first with 84.2 points. The tenth island is the Swedish Gotland, which got 74 points.
Zagreb`s hotel Regent Esplanade was in competition with around seventy top hotels and came in 47th.
