Zagreb – Spring in the Croatian Capital

Zagreb – Spring in the Croatian Capital Zagreb offers many events and activities to tourists throughout the year, but in the spring that offer additionally "blooms" due to the traditional festival of St. Mark and the Zagreb Time Machine manifestation.

During the Festival of St. Mark many museums, churches and squares of Zagreb's old town core in the Upper Town and also the Lower Town become a stage to musical artists. This year's 13th festival will once again host numerous national and international soloists and ensembles.

The festival originated from the idea that performances by top musicians would revive "dormant" spaces, primarily in the Upper Town. Each year the festival starts on 25 April, on the feast of St. Mark after whom it was named. Eight hundred years ago this date was chosen as the date of the city fair, an annual event central for commercial and social life.
Top artists, the diversity of the program and the beauty of the venues in which these concerts take place, put the Festival of St.Mark alongside important musical events on the European festival scene.

Late April marks the beginning of the Zagreb Time Machine, an event during which every Saturday until late September or early October, numerous musical and theatrical performances that remind us of the history of Zagreb take place on the streets and squares of the city.

During this period, various folklore groups hold performances in the central square and there are promenade concerts in park Zrinjevac, so passers by can enjoy the sounds of waltzes, marches, songs from operettas and popular evergreens. The Upper Town is reserved for street musicians and traditional Zagreb songs.
